Their defense, which allowed a league-low 165 points during the regular season, held the Giants to 152 total yards and just seven points. The Ravens offense, led by quarterback Trent Dilfer, scored three touchdowns and a field goal, while their defense scored two touchdowns on interception returns. Ravens running back Jamal Lewis rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown, while wide receiver Qadry Ismail caught five passes for 137 yards. The Giants offense was unable to get anything going and was held to just 152 total yards and seven points. The Ravens defense was the star of the game, as they forced four turnovers and made several key stops that kept the Giants out of the end zone.

The 2001 Stanley Cup Final was a best-of-seven series between the Western Conference champion Colorado Avalanche and the Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils. Colorado was led by star forwards Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg, who combined for 25 points in the series. The Avalanche also received strong goaltending from Patrick Roy, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP. The Devils were led by goaltender Martin Brodeur and forward Scott Gomez, who led all players with 11 points in the series. The Avalanche's victory was the first for the franchise since moving to Denver in 1995, and their second overall.

The Lakers, led by Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, had the best record in the Western Conference and were the favorites to win the championship. The 76ers, led by Allen Iverson, were the surprise team of the playoffs and had the best record in the Eastern Conference. The series went to a decisive Game 5, where the Lakers won the championship with a 111-98 victory. The Lakers were led by O'Neal who had a triple-double in the deciding game, and Bryant who scored 28 points. The 76ers put up a valiant effort, but were ultimately unable to overcome the Lakers. The Lakers would go on to win three more championships in the next four years.
